In 1993, nurse Leslie Macleod-Downes founded Robin Trust after facing a personal challenge—her daughter Robyn required specialised home-based care, and there simply weren’t enough trained caregivers available. Leslie took action, establishing a home-based care college to equip individuals with the skills to provide quality care. Today, Robin Trust continues to train carers, with a special focus on empowering individuals from previously disadvantaged communities.

To help fund this vital training, Leslie pioneered the 1000km Challenge—a movement where participants commit to walking, jogging, or running 1000km in a year to raise funds and awareness for home-based care. Now, she’s bringing that mission home to South Africa!

Leslie and her friends are flying to Cape Town to participate in a 5km Park Run/Walk at Alphen Park Run in Constantia on Saturday, 15 March 2025, at 8 AM. We would love for you to join us for this initiative and get to know you more afterwards. After the run, we’ll gather for coffee and koeksisters, celebrating fitness, friendship, and the power of community.
